23rd September 2016 by Jamie Griffiths - Southern League South & West
In a jam packed Saturday with all Evo-Stik League Southern Division clubs playing at 3pm, it looks to be another exciting week in the South West. Mike Taylor previews all the action here.
In another top of the table clash, Mangotsfield United travel to Wimborne Town and try to capitalise on Hereford or Tiverton possibly dropping points. The South Gloucestershire side have won five of their first seven league games while Wimborne are currently on an unbeaten four game streak.
Swindon Supermarine’s FA Cup win over Farnborough was rewarded with an away trip to Welling FC but all focus will be maintaining their promotion push with a win over Taunton Town. Supermarine previously beat Shortwood United 4-0 but with Taunton holding Tiverton Town and North Leigh to draws, the Somerset outfit may frustrate Dave Webb’s side.
Bideford will hope the 360 mile round to Didcot Town results in maximum points. Sean Joyce’s side travel to Oxfordshire confident as they sit in 8th position while Didcot’s solitary 4-0 win over Winchester City remains their only highlight of a mediocre start.
Alex Sykes will hope his Shortwood United side bounce back from their 4-0 loss to Swindon Supermarine with a win over AFC Totton. United won the previous fixture 5-3 in April but the away side slow league start, they have key players Nathaniel Sherborne and Ashley Jarvis returning to the first team.
A late Gloucester City goal may have ended Salisbury’s FA Cup dreams but they will focus turns to an away trip to Yate Town. After a stuttering start, hosts Yate Town achieved back-to-back wins over Wantage Town and Bridgwater Town whereas Salisbury seek a win to continue their strong league form.
Wantage Town continue to seek their first league win and hope a trip to Larkhall Athletic yields a win for the Oxfordshire side. Larkhall however will hope to continue their winning form over Wantage after their 3-2 and 4-0 victories last season.
Evesham will be missing midweek goalscorer Lance Smith as they face a Paulton Rovers side struggling to find their feet this season. Paulton are currently on a four game losing streak and Paul Collicutt’s Evesham will look to build on their 5-0 win over Bridgewater Town.
Slimbridge will look to shrug off a 2-0 FA Cup defeat by Taunton and North Leigh. North Leigh sit a place off the play offs in sixth place and look to spoil Slimbridge’s unbeaten league record.
Winchester City and Bridgwater Town face off in an early bottom of the table clash. Both sides have the unfortunate achievement of having conceded the most goals, meaning this has the potential to be a goal fest.
14th placed Barnstaple Town host 15th placed Bishops Cleeve in a lower league battle. Both sides have similar recent form with both only winning two of their last five league fixtures.
