Date: Wednesday 20th September 2017
Kick Off: 7:45pm
Venue: Allpay Park
Cup: Herefordshire FA County Challenge Cup
Preview by Ash Pace.
Hereford FC travel to their local rivals Westfields on Wednesday night in the Herefordshire County Challenge Cup, having won the cup the last two seasons they will be looking to win it again for the third season straight.
Hereford come into the game in great form having won their last four games and are in rich goal scoring form netting 21 times in those games. They will look to continue their good form after winning 4-0 away on Saturday in the FA cup at Kempston Rovers.
Westfields will look to bounce back after being knocked out of the FA cup on Saturday to Leamington FC 2-0 thanks to two very late goals that settled the tie.
Peter Beadle could make a few changes knowing they have a big game away at Weymouth on Saturday so the likes of Lance Smith, Jamie Molyneux and Adam Page might start to get more time and fitness under their belts knowing that also the bulls have nine games within the next month.
Westfields will come into the game looking to win the tie so no doubt they will be at full strength looking to cause an upset and proceed to the next round and knock the holders out.
ONE TO WATCH
The obvious one to watch for Hereford if he plays is of course John Mills who has scored 8 goals in his last 4 games and 11 in total so far this season in all competitions. Garyn Preen is also one to watch for the bulls having recently been in good form and netted twice against Stratford Town last Tuesday night at Edgar Street.
One to watch for Westfields is Ex Hereford United player Craig Jones who last season was their talisman scoring a few goals in their historic FA cup run and has already scored a couple of goals so far this season.
A FOOT IN BOTH CAMPS
Westfields Manager Sean Edwards is in his second spell as manager but has been at the club since 1991 when he joined as a player/coach, he was an apprentice at Hereford United but unfortunately his career was sadly cut short due to a cruciate ligament injury.
There are a few players in both team’s current squads that have played for both sides, Jamie Molyneux and Jamie Cuss joined Hereford at the beginning of last season having both had a good previous season at Westfields scoring plenty of goals for them.
Westfields though have the likes of Sam Gwynne, Craig Jones and Aidan Thomas who all played for Hereford United at some point.
They also have players that were in the Midlands Football League title winning side of two seasons ago such as Carlos Moreira, Anthony Robbins and Sidric Grant who along with Mustapha Bundu became a fans favourite during that season but was unfortunately unable to stay at Hereford FC for last season.
