First Community Partnership Launched With St Michael’s Hospice

22nd June 2018 by Chris Ammonds - Club News,Community,Latest News

Hereford FC is delighted to announce that it is forming its first community partnership with St Michael’s Hospice, under the banner of ‘Hereford In The Hospice’.

St Michael’s Hospice helps people affected by terminal illness live life to the fullest and the charity’s vision is that ‘everyone in Herefordshire and the surrounding areas who needs and wants palliative care has timely access to it and in a way that suits them’.

Speaking about this new partnership, the club’s Director of Community Engagement, Andrew Graham, said:

‘We are all very moved by St Michael’s philosophy of care – that the patient and their family always come first. St Michael’s looks to find or create opportunities to promote the patient’s quality of life and well-being (in however small a way) and will do whatever they can to make it happen.

‘Knowing the great work that is being done, as a club we decided to approach St Michael’s Hospice with a proposal for them, rather than offer our support when approached as is the normal way these things tend to happen.

‘Through our partnership, during the 2018/19 season the club will be inviting selected or nominated patients, who have perhaps followed Hereford through the healthy time in their lives, to enjoy an extra special hospitality experience at Edgar Street.

‘I want each special guest to be treated to an executive day out, a day where perhaps we can thank them for their support and show them that we, as a club, are together in standing by them in their time of need.

‘We realise how important this football club is to people, just as Hereford United was, and understand that we have a huge part to play in the community.

‘Hereford In The Hospice is set to be the first of a number of new projects the club will be undertaking and as I settle into my new role on the club’s board, I very much look forward to ensuring the club places itself right at the heart of the community at every possible opportunity, and not just on a matchday.’

Paddy Nugent, from St Michael’s Hospice, said:

‘We are really pleased to form the Hereford in the Hospice partnership with Hereford FC and look forward to seeing our relationship grow in seasons to come. We are looking forward to working with the club to create some great memories for our patients and their families.’
