Hereford enjoyed a comfortable afternoon running out 5-1 winners versus a young Gosport side. It took Hereford 31 minutes to register the first goal, a strong header by Jimmy Oates was parried by goalie O’Flaherty which brushed off Myrie-Williams’ thigh and into the net. 10 minutes later and this time it was Oates who made it 2-0, a Purdie cross invited attacking headers and as the ball dropped to the floor Oates flung a leg out to surprise O’Flaherty and hit the roof of the net.
The second half started uncomfortably for Hereford with Rowan Vince cutting the deficit with a strong strike across goalkeeper Puddy. However it only took a minute to restore the two goal lead with Myrie Williams weaving into the box and striking the ball inside the near post despite some frantic defending. Myrie-Williams then wrapped up his hat trick from provider Oates, the ball crossed slightly behind Myrie-Williams but he managed to get a backheel on it and raise the ball to drop in the net. Myrie-Williams managing to get in the goal before the ball itself!
Lance Smith had a frustrating afternoon with some shots going perilously close before deservedly getting Hereford’s fifth. Pring on the left crossed left footed and Smith acrobatically met the ball stretching his right leg to raise it onto the underside of the bar, Patrick O’Flaherty having no chance to save it. The ball ricocheted over the goal line and back out, the assistant ref adjudging the ball had crossed the line without the use of VAR.
The crowd was a healthy 2710 with 23 away supporters.
