Herefordshire Community Champions Award 2019

06th March 2019 by Jane Griffiths - Junior Bulls

We were very pleased to hear that the Junior Bulls had been nominated for the above award and even though we weren’t lucky enough to get to the finals we are very grateful, proud and encouraged by the kind gesture of having been nominated.

I’m sure there are many people who don’t realise that the Junior Bulls is run entirely by volunteers without any funding other than the support that our main sponsor Kempowell Electrics Ltd gives and the small fundraising events we hold at social events and at the gazebo on matchdays.
We were however very fortunate to receive funding from the Adam Stansfield Trust when we set up our Kick About Fun Football  last September. These weekly sessions welcome all youngsters, aged 6 – 11 yrs within the local community, along to enjoy football and help develop their life skills through the fun of football.

With a small band of junor Bull volunteers, 10 to be exact,  we have managed to organise events for youngsters at every home match for the last 3 seasons including Guard of Honour, player escorts, half time events, ball persons, birthday parties and match mascots. Volunteers also man the Junior Bull gazebo pre-match which is a great way to meet and greet our young supporters and keep them in touch with what is happening around the ground

Edgar the Bull has also been run and organised by our volunteers enabling Edgar to be at every home game this season.

Our voluntary work doesn’t stop at Edgar St, volunteers have taken the gazebo and Edgar out to community events including school fetes, The Courtyard Family Fun Day.and of course Edgar’s debut as a pantomime star with the Kilpeck Panto Society – a moment he won’t forget!

So far this season Junior Bull volunteers have catered for hundreds of youngsters on matchdays and welcomed schools and junior football teams in giving them the chance to take part in the matchday experience. This has also brought in extra revenue for the club through family and friends coming along to see the youngsters on the pitch All this requires a lot of planning and organisation, we’re not perfect but we do try to please, it takes hours of work during the week to make it happen on matchdays and this is done around our paid jobs and family life, so please excuse the occasional hiccup!

We are always on the look out for volunteers, fundraising ideas and sponsors to keep us going so if you’re interested in helping out or would like further information then we’d love to hear from you. Contact [email protected]
