A first half brace from Joe Mellars helped the Hereford FC Under 18 side to a 4-0 win over local rivals Malvern Town at Edgar Street on Thursday night.
The home side were ahead after just four minutes with Luke Firkin racing down the left, whipping a low ball into the box for Mellars to slot home. Midway through the half the Bulls put together the move of the night, a clinical passing and movement piece that was finished with aplomb by Mellars.
Malvern came out strongly in the second half looking to get back into the game with goalkeeper Brandon Powell, who signed National League forms prior to the match, brave several times to smother balls into the box. It was against the run of play when the Bulls hit their third, the hard working Rob Whitlock fired a shot from 20 yards that took a wicked deflection past the flat footed keeper for 3-0.
The visitors seemed drained after the late blow and soon conceded a fourth with a sloppy challenge that saw Matt McLeod upended in the box. Jack Marston converted the spot kick to finish off the night.
With five of Dan Chance’s men now registered to the First Team, the fast improving young side are stepping up to show their worth and will await next week’s draw eagerly.
